Meek flower shop assistant Seymour (Rick Moranis) pines for co-worker Audrey (Ellen Greene). During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey's boyfriend, Orin (Steve Martin), to the plant after Orin's accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.

Watched this several times growing up and adored Audrey II and the singing trio Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon; they really made the film. However, the weak plot and Ellen Greene's dodgy wig, horrendous singing and phoney "innocence" were always grating and off-putting. In the 1960 film, Audrey is a brunette with a "classy" feminine appearance and assertiveness. Curiously, in this they chose to make her a dumb blonde; it turns out Greene wanted her to look "angelic" and "innocent". The irony of that is she looks the exact opposite—old, cheap, and tacky—as though she ought to be playing Seymour's reformed streetwalker grandma. The stereotype of lower-class/poor women as naive and stupid is insulting when they cannot afford the luxury of innocence in the impoverished society they are forced to live in. When they say a bad actor (in this case, an actress) can ruin a film, this is what they mean. One star for Audrey II and the other for the girls.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is a perfect blend of charm, chaos, and killer musical numbers—literally. It’s a rare film where every song lands, every joke hits, and even the man-eating plant has more personality than half of Hollywood. Smart, stylish, and endlessly rewatchable, it’s a five-star reminder that sometimes the best stories bloom from pure, delightful absurdity.

This is absolutely one of my favorite movies. I recently found out about it just looking for something to watch and now I’ve watched at least four times in the last two weeks. The music is very catchy. The characters are super fun and theatrical. Not to mention the fact that no movies are shot like this anymore. The set design is impeccable and really gives a great atmosphere but still keeps its theatrical roots. I’m obsessed with this movie! Sometimes I put it on in the background just to listen to the music, the songs have been stuck in my head 24/7.
