In a Disney animation classic, Dalmatian Pongo is tired of his bachelor-dog life. He spies lovely Perdita and maneuvers his master, Roger, into meeting Perdita's owner, Anita. The owners fall in love and marry, keeping Pongo and Perdita together too. After Perdita gives birth to a litter of 15 puppies, Anita's old school friend Cruella De Vil wants to buy them all. Roger declines her offer, so Cruella hires the criminal Badun brothers to steal them -- so she can have a fur coat.

101 Dalmatians divides opinions with its look, but it's the movie that saved Disney by swapping classic magic for a gritty, modern vibe. Using xerography created a "rough," imperfect line style that actually gives the animation a unique kinetic energy, feeling like a living sketchbook. The atmosphere of a foggy, jazzy London, combined with Bill Peet's smart, dry script, creates a highly sophisticated story. The absolute standout is Cruella De Vil: a grotesque, intensely physical threat who elevates the entire film. Despite budget limits, the movie innovates with fun meta moments—like the puppies watching TV—and keeps a snappy, suspenseful pace. More than just a movie about cute dogs, it’s a brilliant case study on survival and reinvention. The imperfect animation isn't a flaw; it's the signature of an era proving Disney could be bold, relevant, and totally unforgettable.
