Blu B @RT43513976 Jun 21 It's Not bad honestly. It's a weird mixture of a war like Top Gun flick and a Romance together, borderline Romcom. It's half decently made all around. Couple issues though. Number one Janet Leigh is a double edged sword here. On one hand she's gorgous and you can't take your eyes off her and she does a good job acting wise with good chemistry with The Duke. On the other hand while I can't take my eyes off her, I don't buy for one moment she's a Soviet Double Agent Fighter Pilot. And her American accent just adds fuel to the fire. It's a great miscasting if that makes sense. Could've been worse I guess. Wayne is great here though and heps make up for that. The fighter jet scenes are great. It's crazy to think they had the tech for this stuff in the mid 50's. And in color too it looks great and holds up well overall. Better honestly than Firefox's scene 25 years later. Everyone else though is forgettable character wise. And the other major problem is this film never really takes itself seriously but also never goes into full blown comedy. It tries being serious while being light hearted and it just makes scenes that should be very big emotional moments impacts blunted. So it's hard to take the serious defections, double crossings, and dangerous stuff seriously. It makes it honestly slow down the more it goes and you just start to lose interest. Anyone who is a die hard fan of Leigh or Wayne may want to check this out but most could skip this. See more 06/08/2020 This one is without a doubt my all-time favorite film directed by the legendary, innovative, and notorious Howard Hughes. Judging by the movie poster you would think that its an exciting action drama film, but I would classify this as a spicy comedy film. I was in awe of this beautiful RKO Technicolor adventure film the first time I saw it. There is absolutely NO stock footage used in this film; Howard Hughes filmed real jet fighter planes. I think sometimes the setting, the color process, and the cinematography of a movie can really capture the personality/looks of a certain actor/actress; in this case it's Janet Leigh. She plays a Russian Jet fighter pilot; how many leading ladies in Old Hollywood got unique, exciting roles like that? John Wayne, who is usually the hero of every movie he stars in, is actually overshadowed by Janet Leigh who is presented as a superior jet pilot. Only Howard Hughes would have dared contradict John Wayne's tough reputation in the movies. So if you're a John Wayne fan I would not recommend watching this film, not unless you want to see "The Duke" act completely out of character and require the help of a woman. I didn't expect Janet Leigh to be the ultimate hero at the end of the movie! If you like Janet Leigh especially in her earlier film roles, THIS IS A MUST-SEE!!!
