The main irony, of course, lies in the film's title, which suggests that the absurdly flag-waving activist should be taken at face value despite the ample evidence that defending his country is the last thing on his mind.

Not every film has to be historically accurate, but everything is so sanitised given the main protagonist is a plantation owner in the south.

Certainly an interesting make believe story but very little historical accuracy. The relationship between the slaves and Gullah people of South Carolina was so sanitized that it was laughable. But who can deny the star power of Mel Gibson when he is fighting.

Makes me feel so patriotic. Movie would be 5 stars if it was shortened by 30 minutes. Final 30 minutes before the final battle lost me for a bit.

I enjoyed but some scenes. Don’t do it you will loss a 1/4 star and they did. Sanitized and formulate but plays like a throwback and I like a throwback.
