Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) escaped from custody. The doctor is now at large in Europe. Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) remembers Lecter too, and is obsessed with revenge. Verger was Dr. Lecter's sixth victim, and though horribly disfigured, has survived. Verger realizes that to draw the doctor into the open, he must use someone as bait: Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore).

While superbly acted and stylishly filmed, Hannibal lacks the character interaction between the two leads which made the first movie so engrossing.

All of this opulence, together with extravagant set-pieces that go past grisly to grotesque (and then, in the climax, on to goony), can't compensate for the halting pace of a patchy script.

Hannibal doesn't seem to be about anything but its own swank decadence. Hopkins, with his reedy voice and effete airs, is still quite delicious in the part that won him an Oscar. But 10 years later, Lecter has become more camp than terrifying.

A bizarre adaptation of a bizarre novel, one has to give credit to Hannibal for willing to go to some of the places it does. The only true blight on the picture is the horrendous handling of the Clarice Starling character.

Despite some great gore and a fantastic Gary Oldman performance (under heavy make-up), Ridley Scott's take on Hannibal doesn't quite work. From the blurry action to a boring Clarice to copping out on the book's controversial ending, the film is meh

I like Juliana Moore but as soon I saw her instead of Jodie Foster I already knew it wasn't going to be as good as The Silence of the Lamb and not because one actress is better than the other, call it intuition. So it wasn't as good for several reasons but it was still decent. I enjoyed it but I think they did too much they should have stuck to one plot and executed it but I felt this one to be a bit busy. Also I hated the dialogue of Mason Verger, they tried to make him sound intelligent with his banter but nothing landed for me. Hopkins was phenomenal as usual but like I said the whole movie felt like 3 different plots forced in one film.

Every scene seemed to be constructed to get the audience to care. Unfortunately, in every scene I was disinterested and found myself hoping for the next scene to be something of relevance. This continued throughout the movie and ultimately I felt disappointed expecting something more, and receiving so much less. Don't go into this film expecting a great storyline, or intense action...you will be disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you should expect coming into this film...maybe taking a pass is warranted.

Great movie, love Julianne Moore she always brings mystery to a movie. The scene with Ray Lotta fnn unbelievable. Overall just a great vibe. Horror. Suspense, nice dialogs, subtle, slightly over the top but just the right amount. Great follow up to the previous Hannibal movies.
