These fast paced, twitchy, blood crazed vampires are more reminiscent of zombies from things like 28 days later the way they act and attack their victims. The story has many plot holes, and the characters are over used tropes that fall flat in the intellectual department. This movie is mediocre at best. I would not recommend. I wasn't going to want to write a review for 30 Days of Night, but frankly the flaws that I could speak about outweigh my instinct. Every plot point was thin to the thinnest deli turkey slice. Josh Hartnett says "If this vandalism was done by rotten kids, they would have left a note". No, they wouldn't have. They wouldn't correspond with your stupid character. The vampires look like they have bright daylight simulator lamps on their faces, uplighting in a way that reminds me of telling scary stories by the campfire. They hide behind buildings and jump instead of fly. They remind me of Kilroy from WWII. They poke their noses out and then crouch behind a roof or whatever. There were 0% effective jumpscares. It wasn't the worst movie, yes some scenes were slightly tense, but it still sucked. What a slogfest. I forced myself to finish it. I've seen worse recently, but I've also seen movies that make a point of being good instead of settling in on paper thin lore. Stakeland, a riff on Zombieland imo, was more compelling with its lore. That says something, because Stakeland should have sucked. You know what? Darkness: The Vampire Version was probably better than this. Oh well. I guess I'll continue reassessing my life choices. See more Thomas w Oct 26 It is true that when you see one “vampire” movie you’ve seen them all, however this is a pretty decent film. It’s got just enough suspense to keep you invested and the portrayal of the vampires is one of the best, most terrifying you’ll see in a film like this. The leader of the vampire clan Marlow Roderick was played by Danny Huston and he gives an incredible performance. He was terrifying and the fact he could do it with barely any lines was magnificent. It’s worth a watch if you are into horror movies. Just the thought of being in a place that is dark for 30 days straight is scary in itself… See more Read all reviews
