Alain E @AlainE May 14 Kissed a lot of frogs until I finally found a movie about the Holocaust done with modesty and sensitivity. Nicely restored saturated colors of the period. It’s a tale of a deeply traumatized young Jewish girl from France who now is trying to survive after she came to New York with her mother. A married Jewish couple in her new neighborhood force their young son to provide companionship. The two young actors are doing an extraordinary job delivering their characters, while avoiding exaggerations and baseless melodrama. There is no unrealistic happy ending to the story, neither extreme hopelessness. Very worthy, with the exception of the sugary song heard with the final credits. I liked Lukas Haas's character the most; he brought a lot of heart and emotion to the movie. The ending leaves you wondering, and usually I don't like those kinds of endings, but the rest of the movie was so good that I still rate it high. See more 06/15/2011 This is a cute and heartwarming movie, and a nice thought, but... I thought more could have been done with the ending. The story rocks along very nicely, and it kind of ends abruptly, almost back to where the two characters were at the beginning of the movie! That was a little disappointing, but overall I say a very good movie. At first I was a little weary with this one because frankly, I am a little 'nazi-ed'-out when it comes to movies. However, this story isn't really about that at all - it is just needed to explain some background. I will definitely be holding on to this movie :) See more 10/22/2010 iT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY SAD TALE FROM TH BOOK See more 04/24/2010 Although sadly overlooked, Alan and Naomi is an amazing art film that follows the story of a boy who helps a Jewish girl recover from the shock of seeing her father killed by the Nazis. A very touching film, and I must say this is the best child acting I have ever seen in my life. The best part, however, is the ending. While I won't spoil anything, it is very unusual and thought-provoking, definitely only what an art-house film could achieve. 100% certified fresh! See more Read all reviews
