Former toy maker Sam Mullins and his wife, Esther, are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Sometimes a creepy-looking doll is just a creepy-looking doll and no amount of repetition can make the sweet old song You Are My Sunshine even the slightest bit scary.

For the first two acts, while Annabelle: Creation concerns itself with little girls checking under beds and investigating things that go bump in the night, it's equal to James Wan's Conjuring films.

It started out reasonably well but the middle and end just dragged way too much. It was just I much of the same old thing, a stupid looking doll.

This movie never seemed to hit where it was supposed to. In the end it was bland and boring. I found myself checking the time waiting for it to be over. No connection to any of the characters at all. The scares were cheap and predictable using the formula of slowly creep up the scare factor, pause to silence for a second while the character looks around, then big scare! It was just rinse and repeat the whole time. Also an extremely powerful demon capable of levitating people, throwing massive objects across the house, literally ripping people apart but then had to creep around the house with a knife incapable of killing some teenagers and was thrown into the closet by a nun single handedly. That doesn’t make a lot of sense for me. Overall for this being the big bad Annabelle origin story it did not hit at all.
