It's an exploration of the weight of our own mistakes. How the choices we make, and the things we can't change, fundamentally change us. Go to Full Review

Annihilation is a visceral sensory experience that chills the blood and makes the skin crawl (literally), leading to a bravura conclusion that would make Tarkovsky proud and any jaw drop. Go to Full Review

Absorbing and hypnotic, Annihilation is the best kind of sci-fi film - the kind that challenges and subverts the genre, all the while introducing new ideas that you'll see in films to come. Go to Full Review

Great sci-fi is very rewatchable, and Annihilation qualifies; it may not be quite as strong as Ex Machina, but who cares? Go to Full Review

maxwell s May 21 Hated the characters except for Natalie Portman. The set design looked too fake. The plastic flowers were distracting. The animals & the ending were tight. But just kinda boring. See more Tharindu D @tharinduxd 2d Annihilation is a very different kind of science fiction movie. At first, I found it slow and a little confusing. The first 50 minutes didn't really grab my attention, and I wasn't sure where the story was going. However, as the movie continued, everything slowly started to make sense. The confusing parts became connected, and I realized that every scene had a purpose. The more I watched, the more I appreciated the story and its deeper meaning. This isn't a movie that explains everything right away. It asks you to be patient and think about what you're watching. If you enjoy unique sci-fi films that leave you thinking even after they end, Annihilation is definitely worth watching. It's a memorable and rewarding experience for viewers who enjoy something different. See more Bruce L @RT90280577 2d Garland's interpretation of Van Der Meer's informationist sci fi classic is more perfect every time I see it. What I love most about the movie itself is the performances by the actors. It's difficult material to represent, and serious sci fi is always a challenge in terms of getting the audience to take it seriously. Portman is flawless as usual but Jason Leigh's portrayal of a depressed chronically ill doctor is also astonishing. None of the actors are slouches and everything they do is convincing. Van der Meer's story is informationist science fiction par excellence: Distorted signals; Estranging encoding and decoding ( l'estrangement or la défamiliarisation, or ostranenie); Lots of meta-informational themes. It's in an elite group of informationist science fiction movie greats: Donnie Darko, Arrival, Source Code. I need to rewrite my 2010 MPhil to include it! ("Informationist Science Fiction Theory and Informationist Science Fiction", Dr Bruce Long, University of Sydney, 2010.) See more Sophia P @RT31886313 5d The books lean more towards mystery than horror, unlike the movie, but that being said I liked the horror aspect a lot. See more Julian C @juliancooper_12 Jul 23 A visually stunning movie with an premise that makes the audience think about extraterrestrial life See more Travis M @TMorg007 Jul 10 Interesting movie with solid acting, great visuals, and an enigmatic ending that is thought provoking.
