In a classic Disney animation, a fawn named Bambi joins his new friends, a young rabbit named Thumper and a skunk kit named Flower in happily exploring the woods. Bambi is captivated with a young doe named Faline, and he learns from his doting mother and his father -- the Great Prince of the Forest -- that besides the delights of the forest, there is danger in open meadows where hunters can see them. Though fear and tragedy touch Bambi's life, another spring brings renewal.

Disney starts to reach for a higher thesis but ultimately falls short, they will eventually find the nuance they clearly were looking for here in future films, but sadly Bambi just starts to scratch the surface of what they were ultimately looking for.

Disney’s pre-form for his naturally observant films in animated, albeit elliptical, storytelling blended whimsical realism with appealing beauty to rank this one of the most wonderfully endearing classics that resiliently triumphs above the canon library’s early years. (A-)

Stunning display of both the beauty and ruthlessness of both life and nature. The hand-drawn art style is charming and the characters are extremely lovable. The pacing is slow, but it's intentional to let you bask in the wonderful atmosphere.

The latest way that this has appeared in my life was an Economist article saying in earnest that it was very deep and environmental. I seem to remember it suffered from cloying sentiment, but could be wrong.
