I wished that the film worked through more of the discomfort it conjures up while challenging ingrained gender-dynamics. When it sticks to that lane, it is at its best... Go to Full Review

The leaps that the film makes, even those that are in the right direction, are inconsistent in terms of both arc and outcome. If not a mess, Bandar is a bit of a tangle that is hard to wrap one's head and heart around. Go to Full Review

It may not fully succeed in balancing all the issues it raises, but its ambition, grit and refusal to simplify complex realities make it one of the most significant Hindi films in recent memory. Go to Full Review

Anurag Kashyap’s unrelentingly grim and needling Bandar (Monkey) is both a statement on the MeToo movement and a reminder of the terrible conditions in Indian jails. Go to Full Review

arvind S @Arvind100 Jun 10 If you have any doubts about Bobby Deol's skills as an actor, then Bandar is your proof that he is a damn good one. He just needed a director who could bring that out. Bobby Deol plays Samar Mehra, a washed up singer who does odd singing jobs to make ends meet. He also frequents dating apps to hook up with girls and one such meeting leads to his eventual arrest and prison time. Bandar looks at the life of the rape accused and the level of treatment they receive from the police to the inmates in jail. How they are downgraded to the worst kind of prisoner. The starry ensemble in Bandar does justice to their roles. Especially Sapna Pabbi, whose character accuses Samar of rape. Indrajith Sukumaran is impactful as Lijo, a fellow inmate. Raj B Shetty and Sanya Malhotra have smaller roles but they make the most of it. Bandar is gritty, realistic and leaves a lasting impact. The performances are the highlight here in this classic Anurag Kashyap movie. Anurag Kashyap has once again delivered a classic that going to be definitely a cult film course of time. Don't let this film get tagged as "underrated." It deserves to be seen and celebrated.
