It’s sweet without being saccharine and gives us a lead character who doesn’t always do the right thing. Seek it out. Go to Full Review

All four main actors impress with a screenplay blessed with subtlety and credible dialogue, avoiding the clichés than can often undermine LGBTQ+ films where a melodramatic wringing of hands overly labours the premise. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 1d Big Boy follows a 14-year-old boy struggling with his weight and his confusing feelings as he develops a crush on his cousin’s boyfriend. The film attempts to explore self-discovery, adolescence, and identity, but the execution is inconsistent and often awkward. Many scenes feel uncomfortable or forced, and the screenplay jumps around, making it hard to stay engaged. Will, the older brother, gives a solid performance, but the lead actor’s portrayal is rough and uneven, lacking depth. The direction shows care, yet the tone never fully succeeds, leaving the story disjointed. While it has good intentions and moments of insight, overall it remains a borderline, uneven watch that struggles to connect with audiences. It just feels like it’s misjudged, that it’s only judged because it’s part of the LGBT community. That the critics are not actually judging this based on the film it is. Because it’s not a great film. See more Read all reviews
