High school can be tough for many teenagers, but for Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), it's especially hellish. A shy and awkward teen being raised by a religious zealot (Julianne Moore), Carrie is frequently the target of bullies. But Carrie has a secret talent: She can make things move with her mind. Carrie resonates for women in particular because it touches on so much of the horror of becoming female that it's almost too real. I love that Kimberly Piece chose to honor that horror faithfully, even if it doesn't make for a radical re-visioning.

Carrie is an outstanding modern take on a horror classic with some surprising new twists, novel accurate plot points & Chloe playing the title character with sweet innocence as well as fierce intensity!

The 2013 Carrie reimagines the story for the digital age, updating the bullying to feel frighteningly realistic. Chloë Grace Moretz portrays Carrie with a softer vulnerability, making her transformation into something powerful and destructive feel tragic rather than monstrous. Julianne Moore is chilling as Margaret, bringing an intense, unhinged energy to every scene she’s in. The film amplifies the telekinesis with striking visual effects, making the prom scene chaotic and explosive in a new way. It explores themes of social media humiliation and modern cruelty, showing how quickly violence can spiral. While it honors the original, it carves its own identity as a slick, emotional, and visually dramatic retelling of a timeless horror story. 10/10 Best prom scene I might add.
