In the near future, a mechanized police force patrols the streets and deals with lawbreakers -- but now, the people are fighting back. When one police droid is stolen and given new programming, he acquires the ability to feel and think for himself. While the robot, dubbed "Chappie (Sharlto Copley)," puzzles out human behavior, the authorities begin to see him as a danger to mankind and order; they will stop at nothing to ensure that Chappie is the last of his kind.

I absolutely love this movie. I think some characters could be different. But the heart touching story of a robot with feelings is just so great. Definitely worth watching.

At first glance it looks like a gritty sci-fi action film about robot police in Johannesburg, but underneath that surface is a surprisingly heartfelt story. When engineer Deon Wilson, played by Dev Patel, gives a damaged robot true artificial intelligence, Chappie essentially wakes up like a child, curious, innocent and trying to understand the world around him. What makes the film powerful is watching how he learns about life from the people around him, including criminals played by Ninja and Yolandi Visser. The story quietly explores deeper ideas about upbringing, consciousness and what it really means to be alive. By the time Chappie realises that his battery will eventually run out, the film hits emotionally in a way you don’t expect. It asks a simple but powerful question: if something can think, feel and fear death, doesn’t that make it alive? Messy at times, but full of heart, Chappie is a surprisingly touching sci-fi story that deserved far more attention than it received.

Worn out plot lines EVERYWHERE in this film. The IT guy, the bad guys are just stupid thugs that no one stands up to...ugh. Worn out storytelling. Nothing original here. Terrible film.

Real potential, but weak character development, weak relationships. Chappie adopts a couple human criminals as his parent after he becomes alive, but the acting is SO bad. I really wish the movie studio would have given this to a good producer. This is the producer that made District 9, which was not too bad. I would recommend passing on this for bluray. Im a sci fi fan and felt annoyed I wasted two hours after it was over.
