Blu B @RT43513976 Aug 5 To call this what it is, is beyond false advertising. This is Kangaroo Jack type stuff. You think your gonna get something like The Longest Day and instead you get 90% a boring drawn out melodramatic war romance planning some early D-Day operation that barely gets any focus. There is maybe 10 minutes at most of actual war related stuff in this or action. It feels like you could cut the war stuff completely and almost nothing changes and vice versa. This reminds me of so many of the other boring 50's romance melodramas that try to mix other stuff into it like the Raintree Country. The acting is so wooden, stilted, and just melodramatic in that classic sense. It feels dated. The cinematography is just people talking, basic direction, no memorable setting, and just so boring to look at. The war stuff is good though when it happens. It's the only good thing here. Too bad it's over in a minute. The music is boring, generic, and forgettable. Everything else is subpar. You know it would be one thing if the romance/drama was actually done well. But on top of being wooden and basic, it feels like stuff just happens and never really ties the commitment to the operation with the relationship into some kind of clear narrative. If anything it feels like it just goes in circles repeating the obvious. Why this is told in flash back also I don't get as well. Skip This. There is so many better WWII films and Romance movies. Or if you want something that actually mixes the two well together watch From Here to Eternity or The Sand Pebbles. See more Dave S @RT88116482 07/10/2021 More of a romance than a war film. Not quite THE LONGEST DAY but still compact military actioner of WW2's Normandy invasion with American officer Taylor and British leader Todd, their professional and personal problems. Several powerful action scenes. See more 05/09/2016 The romances seemed completely unnecessary, and took away from an otherwise well-made war film, though had I been around at the time, I would have done my best to woo Dana Wynter myself. Being a huge Edmond O'Brien fan, this got extra marks from me. Worth a watch if you like films from this era, or war films in general...and a purchase and rewatches, if you are fans of any of the stars or of director Koster. See more 02/17/2011 Cardboard melodramatics form the backdrop for this war flick that only loosely focuses on the name event. Dana Wynter is fine as is Jerry Paris in a small role, Todd is more an afterthought than a character. Taylor is stiff as usual and O'Brien consumes the scenery and plows over any actor in his way.
