Stuntman Mike is a professional body double who likes to take unsuspecting women for deadly drives in his free time. He has doctored his car for maximum impact; when Mike purposely causes wrecks, the bodies pile up while he walks away with barely a scratch. The insane Mike may be in over his head, though, when he targets a tough group of female friends, including real-life stuntwoman Zoe Bell (who served as Uma Thurman's double in "Kill Bill"), who plays herself.

Death Proof may feel somewhat minor in the context of Tarantino's larger filmography, but on its own merits, it packs just enough of a wallop to deliver sufficiently high-octane grindhouse goods.

Death Proof is superbly made. There's a terrible tension watching these beautiful and spirited young women getting too close to the flame, followed by enormous relief when the mood changes in the second story.

The dialogue with which Tarantino is usually adept is disastrously clunky, the filmmaking largely without flair and even the apeing of the smears and scratches of the schlock originals seems ridiculous.

I so wanted to enjoy this! I think Kurt is a wonderful actor, I really enjoy most of Tarrantino's other movies. But this one is a stinker. I was waiting to be 'bitten' and hooked into the movie like normally happens with Tarrantino's slow burns, but it never eventuated. A solid cast doesn't make up for a horrible screenplay. 1 star for that... the casting, and another 1/2 star for the cinematography. Everything else about this movie was a non-starter. I regret the investment in sticking through it... it doesn't get better, it actually gets worse. Pass on this one, trust me.

Death Proof is a great movie for girls night, but falls short of being a Tarantino masterpiece. The stylish cinematography, soundtrack, and dialogue are cool but the story is flawed. Overall it was worth watching once.

Not a bad movie. Just flawed. Would have been a 7/10 if not for the baffling decision to have three girlfriends casually hand their friend over to a creepy strange man they don’t know. That was disturbing. Then the movie just abruptly ends without any real payoff or closure to her character. Weird and off-putting.
