Eye C @ECinc Oct 14 The six stages of an exorcism are Presence, Pretense, Breakpoint, Voice, Clash, and Expulsion. A Bronx sergeant in New York City experienced them firsthand, and here is his story. A New York police officer and his partner begin receiving reports of strange behavior inside several homes in the Bronx neighborhood. Initially, the cases seem unconnected, but as they unfold, they start to intertwine through members of the affected families, who exhibit erratic and violent personalities. Meanwhile, a Jesuit priest joins the investigation team because everything indicates that those affected have been possessed by a demon that acts like an infernal virus, infecting and affecting anyone who crosses its path. Even more than 10 years after its premiere, it's clear not much money was poured into this movie's production, but plenty went into the story and the performances. What I've always loved about this film is the excellent chemistry between the two police officers; I wish they had done more projects together, even if they weren't horror—watching this pair work is very enjoyable. The screenplay is well done; I find it has an interesting development and slowly escalates in intensity until it reaches the climax: the exorcism of the "patient zero," so to speak. I also really like Edgar Ramirez as the cool priest who performs the exorcism ritual in a Latin way, practically chanting it. The visuals and sounds are sufficiently stressful. The bad thing, as I mentioned, is that it does look cheap. There are moments where the effects are very noticeable, and they sometimes resort to cheap scarejumps with sounds and images that literally appear on the screen without reason. The film didn't need this; I think it has enough to keep the audience tense and scared on its own. It’s a good movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s an interesting mix of police procedural and supernatural elements. Santino is spectacularly creepy; Sean Harris did a great job there. The rest of the cast also did a good job and Bana and Ramirez make a great team. I thought it was a really refreshing take on the exorcist trope, and I thought that the performances were great. The ending section had one of the most unique make ups that I’ve ever seen, and I thought that the acting was very strong.
