Nick O'Brien is the hard-drinking leader of the Regulators, an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Ray Merrimen is the recently paroled leader of the Outlaws, a gang of ex-military men who use their expertise and tactical skills to evade the law. O'Brien, Merrimen and their crews soon find themselves on a direct collision course as the criminals hatch an elaborate plan for a seemingly impossible heist -- the city's Federal Reserve Bank.

Butler and Schreiber deliver commanding performances. They are men who could explode at any moment, at work or at home. That nonstop ticking beneath their calm exteriors fills the film with a gripping tension.

Den of Thieves desperately wants to be Heat or The Killer when it grows up. Instead it's a daft, distant, drunken cousin to those pictures, but if you studiously avoid thinking about it, you can at least enjoy its moronic antics.

A very well-written crime thriller that keeps the action to the fore but doesn't forget how important an intense a plot is as well. Butler is amazing in a role that he was born to play.

It's one thing for the bad guys to shoot one another, but when cops place dozens of innocent people in the middle of an automatic gun battle it feels gratuitous even for a movie like this.

I'd say about 60% of the negative audience reviews for this film are angry that it's similar to Heat in some ways, because they apparently don't realize that this is how genres work. The other 40% are deeply offended that the movie features a lot of alpha males. So yeah... I just went ahead and disregarded those opinions and watch it anyway. Long story short, it's a solid crime drama with a decent amount of action. It looks good and it's very well acted.

I'd watched this a few years ago and wanted a second look. I can't believe how great Gerard Butler was in this, you never knew what he would do or say next. Pablo Schreiber was excellent as the gang leader as well. It's definitely worth your time.

Despite the countless comparisons people make to 'HEAT' - don't be fooled or misled. This stands strong independently as a great heist movie with excellent characters, strong acting and action. V enjoyable

Perfect example of a bunch of pathetic weak men making a movie to try to seem like macho, big, strong boys. You can tell all the women in this film were written by men because in real life, hot women laugh at men who act this way. In their face. The film tries so hard to create these big, cool moments but they're so cringey and embarrassing. "We're actually the bad guys" got a huge laugh from everyone but I'm pretty sure the writer/director patted himself on the back for that line when he wrote it. It's all so pathetic, it's a comedy film. Also, if you're gonna cast anorexic women, at least have the decency to cast hot men to play opposite them.
