South Boston cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes undercover to infiltrate the organization of gangland chief Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). As Billy gains the mobster's trust, a career criminal named Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) infiltrates the police department and reports on its activities to his syndicate bosses. The Departed doesn't ask who the good guys are, it asks how long anyone can survive pretending to be one. Every lie breeds another, every choice tightens the noose, and every conversation feels like a test no one can pass. Martin Scorsese orchestrates the chaos with surgical precision, while Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson deliver performances that crackle with paranoia and barely restrained violence. By the end, the film leaves you with one undeniable truth that identity is the first casualty when survival becomes the only rule.

Greetings from Lithuania. "The Departed" (2006) is one of the best films ever made in my personal opinion. I have seen this film ~10 times as of 2026, and it is as entertaining and involving as it was since I first time saw it 20 years ago. I could spend hours and thousands of words praising everything regarding this masterpiece but I already said it - this is one of the most entertaining crime films ever made. This is what I though of it in 2006: I just couldn't stay away and don't write a comment on this true masterpiece. Yes you hear it right - A MASTERPIECE! Saw it on a big screen, and I was totally blown away. I can't remember the last time I was so blown away by a movie. Magnificent work from all cast!I also think this is one of the best casts ever put together.The editing of the film is top notch. The script by William Monahan is complex, and rich in characters. Stunning work from director Martin Scorsese. I love Martin Scorsese and in my own opinion, this is his best film.
