William O @RT82623851 6d This movie is AWESOME! Maybe if you never played the video game you will not appreciate it as much but it is great to see the back story of all the characters. When the story is based around volleyball-playing martial arts superhumans, you gotta run with it and have fun, and this movie definitely does that. Delightfully over the top. Don't bring it to Oscar night, but it's a great mindless diversion that doesn't take itself seriously. The game is action packed and has some of the best fighting graphics I've seen, but it only released in 2019, so I was quite surprised to find this movie from 2007 featuring many of it's characters. As an action movie I found the first hour or so very good, introducing the real life versions of the fighters from the game in interesting surroundings with plenty of exciting scenes. However, after the introductions were done and the tournament nears it's climax, the movie switches focus, and mostly takes place in rather dark underground locations, with sparse dialogue. There's still plenty of action going on, but it's no longer interesting or fun to watch, and feels very contrived and disconnected. Personally, I was surprised that the movie did not end with the tournament final set in the main arena, which I think would have been much better. I did not recognise the Weatherby character at all, since in the game NiCO is the lab tech fighter. It also seemed odd for Kasumi to dress the way she did when she has much better fighting costumes in the game, which would have appealed more to her fans. In summary, I liked some of the movie and reccomend it to people who enjoyed the video game, but for others it might be better to give it a miss.
