The plot of a king that faces ruin for his kingdom and even menace for his beloved family is a very relatable human predicament, and the desire to have the power to change oneselves fate too. The movie develops this plot in an enjoyable way, with a suficient reasoning depth to feel like the movie's scriptwritters did a nice job crafting a movie that one could watch many times with satisfaction. The scenography and effects are 9/10 and consistent throughout the movie progression. The dialogues are very matured and the actoring skills of the cast are enjoyable to watch. In this story, a few names are shared, as well as geography, and the prevailing ethnic groups of the time along with the current political situation, which was pretty damn bleak. A man is faced with no clear path and has to make soul-rending decisions involving his family and his people, what to attempt to save and what to sacrifice. Needing power to protect his people, he bargains with unholy sources and obtains that power, at the cost of most of his humanity. He doubts himself, as a leader, a father and husband, and at base, a human and child of God. So be it. He wavers not. Para ser la primera película de Gary Shore, el director tuvo un inicio bastante prometedor. Luke Evans interpreta un Drácula que es digno de recordar y que tiene potencial como un guerrero mitológico. Aunque la historia es corta y simple, tiene la dinámica de un relato épico. Eso es algo que merecía expandirse por una hora más. No es una película orientada al horror y no hay muchas dosis de sangre, pero su épico enfoque sobre la leyenda de Vlad Tepes evolucionando al mito de Drácula hace que sea un gran aporte para el lore. Luke Evans plays Vlad not as a monster, but as the warrior-king he really was. He was a man who fought hard for his people and was always loyal to his people. The movie's supernatural parts are made up, but the character's heart feels very real. Vlad was known for fighting for his home country even when it seemed impossible. The movie focuses on that heroic side of him instead of the usual villain stereotype. That's why this version speaks to me so deeply. It shows Vlad as a protector first, someone who is motivated by duty, sacrifice, and love for his people. Evans makes that human side of the legend come out in a way that makes him feel more like the real person behind it.
