See more sue o @swanann22 Oct 6 This is a classic sci-fi film that is absolutely worth watching and has shown its quality over time. The acting by both leads and the quality of the story carry the movie well beyond the limitations of the special effects of the time, which are good enough to lay out the bare bones needed for the story. Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. are incredibly genuine and authentic in their roles here. The relationship between the human and the alien is very much the heart of the movie. The conflict of the war takes on a backdrop role to the more (ironically) human element of asking ourselves to examine how we believe and act on the most important values we hold to be true. Between both of these quality actors, they carry this movie to a very heartfelt place, asking all of us to be the best version of ourselves and to not only believe in our own moral sense of love and honor (and what is the definition of what it truly means to be human) but to be able to act on our values and actually live them.
