KarthiK P. @madkarthi 6d The visuals are really amazing and the technical quality is so impressive. The costumes and the light work look amazing. They give so much realism throughout the film. I like the unique glow and those reflective armor costumes. The cinematography is top notch. ​This film takes its time. It does not move in a conventional way. The acting style is a bit of a problem. The overall tone feels uneven at times. ​The epic score is great. I keep thinking to myself that I have listened to that music somewhere before. ​Visually it is such an impressive work that i forget about the minor issues. The remastered 4K Bluray quality from Arrow Video makes those scenes look really nice. It is overall a worthy film even with a bit of a mixed bag. See more Pipe Smoking L @RT92467537 Jul 5 Exceptional movie full of Dark Ages meat grinding, caveman sex, wizards, lightening, fire, fog... lots of big stupid armor... allegories most people wont understand anyway... Awesome acting, costuming, setting... etc. etc. If you love Arthurian Lore, or Dark Ages fantasy movies, watch this. It keeps the actions intermixed while moving along with the story of King Arthur... it tries not to be too stupid or too wordy and dull, and succeeds at a nice balance. It's an escape. If you especially have respect for the art of film-making in general, you should watch this. It's kind of like Monty Python's The Holy Grail with the tongue-and-cheek sucked out of it. And 4 tons of grit air-dropped on. The true victim of the movie was Morgan La Fey and I stand by that. (My only complaint is Guinevere is ugly..) See more James B @RT31720670 Jun 23 The only reason I stopped just shy of a full five stars is because I acknowledge this movie has flaws. The acting is sometimes cartoonish, and the dialogue flutters between extremes of silly at times and truly inspired at others. That said, there is a very special place in my heart for this film. Despite it's flaws it is inspired, and gorgeous to look at. The cinematography and colors are sublime. Timing is also a very big factor here. The movie came out as I was a 12-year old fantasy and D&D geek, so there's no denying the influence those have had on my assessment. Flaws and all, when the movie hits, it hits hard, and this happens often. The early interactions between Merlin and Uther are exceptional. The battle scenes, while dated, are still effective to this day. Lancelot and Guinevere are annoying, but fortunately their screen time, while excruciating, is not enough to dominate the film. Plus, it towers over most of the sword & sorcery films that would follow in the decade. The special efects from 1981 are pretty dated, and the acting is often cartoonish, but when it comes to capturing the essence of the arthurian mythology this film simply gets it, when all the others (and there have been many) have failed. The magic is here, with the sense of a violent ancient age, the emergence of a chivalric ideal to domesticate such violence, then broken by lust and ambition, the decline of magic, and the need for the myth to survive when all the rest fails. More impornat, the storyline has been meningfully synthesized from the mass of events and characters in Thomas Malory's Morte d'Arthur (in itself a synthesis of many centuries of storytelling), so that the film actually tells a powerful story.
