A great final film for Stanley Kubrick and arguably one of his most underrated. It's a fascinating and underrated movie about love and lust on the both the subconscious level and how that varies amongst different classes. How we've commodified the human body and desire into transactional commodities that pressure women to become objects of affection and men to desire and consume. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are great, with a lot of subtleties hinting at their emotional and sexual disconnect. The secret masked orgy sex cult is the film's most memorable scene, but the rest of the film excellently builds up this bizarre sex nightmare with a deep and visually rich slow burn character work and a slow mystery that unravels. The question of love on a subconscious level vs a superficial conscious level is fascinating. Which is very fitting with how dream-like the film feels. It's a fantastic riveting thriller about infatuation, power, class, gender roles, and true love.

So bad that I made an account just to leave a negative review. No substance, no buildup (even the first scene is nudity), and at times straight up morally repulsive. (I gave up watching like midway through.)

This movie was just extremely slow and pointless, like there was no take away from the film. Too much nudity. Incredibly slow and useless dialogue. I legit just want to look at the script at this point, whether they were intentionally just dragging their lines and some scenes and characters were totally pointless added absolutely nothing to the plot and the plot is soo dumb. Terrible movie, disappointed that Tom cruise was involved in this.
