Emily Hampshire is a treat as the over-wrought, but loving mother, with a performance that will make you forget she was the girl behind the counter of the motel in Schitt's Creek. The movie tackles a topic that is difficult, and turns it into a tour de force in dealing with the anxious teenage challenge of fitting in when there is something different about you. Tasteful, humorous, sensitively written and directed. A secret gem which should be less of a secret. See more dave d @RT34924333 04/15/2024 Molly McGlynn's semi-autobiographical narrative feature tries really hard, but misses the mark on multiple levels. First there are two major health issues and one is focused and the other glossed over and it just didn't work for me. McGlynn's disdain for most of those surrounding her isn't unusual for a high school student, but casting someone of legal drinking age to play 17 took me out of the film. Also the haphazard nature of how athletics is brought in. Yes, you can go from never running to a college scholarship, but not quite the way it's described here. Big ole swing and a miss! Wasted chance and such a shame!
