judy b @RT45753331 Feb 3 Meryl Streep can play anyone! And always convincingly! This movie is no exception. I also enjoyed the costuming which portrayed the era so well. I don’t know how badly the real Ms. Jenkins sang, but it must have been pretty terrible. This movie was serious and amusingly funny at the same time. See more YIYI X @yiyi11 Aug 17 This should be the second time I watched this film. The first time, I did not watch the whole film. A rich women, a terrible singer from the perspective of her singing skill, earn people’s fondness. Music is her life, her belief. She is so kind to support music, even kind to the people related to the music, ‘spoil’ them. She would wear the most fancy costume, give the performance with her full heart. She is not the type of person who does not care what other people critize. I wonder if her husband tell her the truth about her singing skill, whether she would gave up singing and find something else she is probable more skill at. I don’t know whether she truly loves her husband, or maybe just needs anyone who likes to surround her, although she does express regret that she could not give born to his child. His betrayal is so heartbreaking. And Folerance knew it and accepted the fact, somehow silently. The scene in which she lay in Clar’s arms is so warm, and the moment she responded, ‘You lie’ when Clar said ‘I love you’ is so real, and sad. The young pianoist is ambitious about his career at the beginning, and can’t help but laugh after finishing the class. Gradually, he is motivated by the sincerity of Folerence. The wife of the banker is quite an interesting character. It seems that she is the only one who has the appetite for music appreciation in the first small concert. She even has to crawl on the floor with an endless laugh. However, she also gave support, respect, and appreciation at the big concert. I think Meryl gain some weight for this character, and evenso she had to wear some extra clothes. But I don’t understand why the character has to be a little bit fat, maybe for humor. Seems like the director just wanted some old cars he either did not know or care. See more Weighty Connected L @RT15043548 04/17/2024 The incredible performances of Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg and Meryl Streep as the titular character, who was a famous soprano singer known for her very poor singing, make this 2016 biographical film an entertaining and touching story of a woman's dream without the talent of achieving and yet she did in a strange kind of way. See more Patricia F @RT06570041 03/11/2024 Charmingly depicts a different angle of the 40s unlike what we're used to seeing. Singing off-pitch on purpose is a talent in itself, and Meryl Streep was of course up to the challenge.
