Once under way, the film sometimes rushes to fulfil its conclusions, down to a rather anticlimactic reveal. But there’s purpose and pointedness here all the same.

Theres an interesting metaphor here for the lie at the heart of post-Reconstruction American society ... but Ghosts of the Ozarks loses the thread as it devolves into simplistic allegory.

It tries to make social commentary about power and race relations in Arkansas after the Civil War, but the intended message gets buried in a cesspool of sluggish storytelling and terrible acting. This horror movie also fails to be suspenseful or scary.

I watched this with my gf and her parents because it looked pretty bad and we wanted to make fun of it. Oh boy did we have fun, this movie was terrible to say the least. Feel really bad for the actors that signed on to this “movie”.

The western/horror combo was about to be a nice combo until it took a lame Shyamalan turn into a false uptopia. Nephew undercovers his uncle's devious control using a giant wooden goat idol.
