Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford) is a small-time American gambler, newly arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When he is caught cheating at a game of blackjack, Farrell manages to talk his way into a job with the casino's owner, the powerful Ballin Mundson (George Macready). The two form an uneasy partnership based on their mutual lack of scruples until Mundson introduces Farrell to his beautiful new wife, Gilda (Rita Hayworth), who just happens to be Farrell's ex-lover.

Rita Hayworth's entrance is pure Hollywood starcraft: a perfectly lit close-up as she whips her head into frame, her hair lashing back and revealing her bright face and wide, mischievous grin.

Disgruntled "Casablanca" with thematic subtexts performatively embodied and a screenplay gradually lightening its validated polish through a lowbrow premise that merely dazzled by Rita Hayworth’s provocative performance as her sympathetic arc is marginally the only appealing engagement. (B)

I watched this film for the first time during Noirvember this year. A dangerous love triangle set in the gambling underworld of South America is a great premise to do as a film-noir. Rita Hayworth lights up the screen, showing her mastery of the femme fatale archetype while also getting to show off her singing and dancing talents. The chemistry between her and Glenn Ford are the highlight of the movie.

This was a fantastic noir film. Rita Hayworth gave a great performance. This movie had drama, crime, and romance. Most of it took place at a bar. There was a party for carnival.

They say Casablanca is the greatest movie love story of all time. I disagree, it's overrated, i just finished watching Gilda the 1946 movie starring Rita Hayworth and Glen Ford, Rita Hayworth and Glen Ford give incredible performances. Just about every scene is perfect, i was thoroughly mesmerized by Rita Hayworth, i have never seen a more beautiful woman, a woman who can act and dance. She and Ford made the movie by their brilliant performances. All the secondary actors were great to, as well as the director. The movie was excellently directed. I was never bored once while watching this movie. Watch Casablanca and then Gilda, then you will know what i mean.

It’s a very good movie. The story unfolds somewhat slowly but the story is secondary; there a few twists but what prevails in this movie are the characters who are eye catching for most the movie. Rita Hayworth does a great job in all her sensuous display without ever being tiring or annoying- which is a great accomplishment.
