The journey takes its time (the accusations don’t occur until forty minutes into the film), but if there’s one cause of death that doesn’t come quickly, it’s drowning, and Aileen is up to her neck in sorrow.

Tight movie. Great acting and story. Tension on the tens!! Only challenge was some audio clarity. Partly attributed to accents, maybe the theater, but I think some recording imperfections too.

A dark film portraying a universal theme in a simple setting. I have discussed the film with friends who live in similar small Irish coastal towns. The accuracy is alarming. All of the actors were superb. This was a film with texture and substance.

Emily Watson and Aisling Franciosi - what could go wrong? Two great performances by two of the more underrated actresses. A serious story for sure. If the roles were reversed, ask yourself what you would do.

Tremendous work by the writer Crowley and directors Holmer and Davis. Tone is spot on right. Watson is still one of the finest in cinema, and Mescal continues to show why he's among the greatest of his generation. Compelling, affecting filmmaking by all. 3.4 stars
