Johnathon W @Hoppynsc Jul 19 Solid revenge thriller that while a step down from "Above the Law", continued to show Steven Seagal as an action talent. Seagal delivers a solid performance with some shades of depth, as he is a loving husband and father out for revenge. He mostly gets solid support, especially William Sadler as the villainous senator. Behind, director Bruce Malmuth crafts a solid but cheesy revenge thriller that thankfully doesn't over stay its welcome. He also wisely shows off Seagal's brutal skills, which was a hallmark of his early career. Overall, not a great film but solid watch. Mason Storm a universal eternal champion- falls into a coma after the trauma of losing his beloved, in a brutal attack. Awakened, when needed by a nurse and protector Andy Stuar (Played by Kelly le brook). This is perhaps a metaphor for the society. Just one example of the deep underlying themes throughout the screenplay; the usage of a kitten by the nurse to evoke a response from comatose anti-hero is no doubt a purposeful but subtle nod to the ancient belief in protective forces of feline deities, dating back to the cradle of civilization even Mesopotamia herself. Overall theme: The archetypical hero, rising from the ashes.. bringing forward a new era of renewal and justice to prevail, perhaps a nebulous allegory to the natural rhythms and cycles present in modern sociological populations and perhaps a nod to the natural order of nature and the very cosmos itself. See more Matt S @RT13897183 Nov 19 This is the story of Mason Storm, a cop who wakes up from a seven-year coma after surviving an assassination attempt which took his family. From there, he goes right to vengeance mode. There are some entertaining action scenes, especially the hospital escape and liquor store fight. In true Steven Seagal fashion they’re brutal, fast, and satisfyingly physical. But let’s be honest: the plot is paper-thin, the dialogue delicious cheese ("I’m going to take you to the bank… the blood bank!"). Both Steven Seagal and Kelly LeBrock are better actors than this. Speaking of Kelly LeBrock, her character is severely underwritten. Unnecessary one liners get in the way of heavier moments. The only person I find believable in the movie is the California Senator. Direction and pacing are serviceable but lack the punch of Seagal’s better outings like Above the Law. And then there’s the montage. I’m always amazed at how the in the ‘80s and early ’90s any problem can be solved with a montage. Spoiler alert: after seven years in a coma, all it takes for Mason to be back in fighting shape in about a week are some candles, tai chi, and inspirational music. It’s absurd and ridiculous, but it all part of the fun. Bottom line: Hard to Kill is NOT high art, but it’s a slice of that era’s action nostalgia. With a run time of 96 minutes, this movies delivers brainless entertainment without overstaying it’s welcome. See more Daniel N @Hotchopeppa Sep 2 Hard to kill is hard to watch. I love Steven Segal movies but this was just painful. You can see what they're trying to do but it's bad writing, bad acting and just feels old. But beyond whatever unintentional comedy he brings to the table, there is no juice to the story or any performances in this.
