See more leah R @RT43616857 Apr 25 Head Over Heels – A Headache You Didn’t Ask For Directed by Ryan Dahl Head Over Heels is one of those rare cinematic disasters that makes you genuinely question how films like this ever get made. The plot—or lack thereof—is a jumbled mess of clichés, cringe-worthy dialogue, and direction so lifeless it makes beige paint seem exciting. Monica Potter plays Amanda, an art restorer with a PhD in bad life choices and a talent for picking the most two-dimensional men New York has to offer. After walking in on her latest mistake in bed with someone else (of course), she moves in with a group of fashion models who have all the depth of a puddle and the acting chops of cardboard cutouts. Enter Jim Winston (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), a walking romance-novel cover with all the emotional range of a coffee table. The film awkwardly attempts to be a romantic comedy with a side of murder mystery, but fails miserably at both. It’s neither romantic nor comedic, and the "mystery" is about as suspenseful as a weather forecast. The dialogue is painfully subpar, riddled with lines that feel like they were generated by an AI trained on rejected soap opera scripts. Not a single moment is believable or relatable. The models serve as some bizarre Greek chorus/evil stepsisters/fairy godmothers hybrid, which sounds quirky in theory, but is utterly nonsensical in execution. This movie isn’t just bad—it’s a masterclass in wasted potential and lazy storytelling. Watching it felt like being held hostage in a glittery, brain-dead version of New York where common sense goes to die. Ryan Dahl’s direction is proof that access to a camera and a cast does not make one a filmmaker. Head Over Heels doesn’t have a story. It has a collection of tired tropes duct-taped together and called a plot. It’s a waste of time, a waste of talent, and frankly, a waste of film. The only mystery here is how this ever made it past a first draft. Avoid at all costs. See more Mike H @RT70691845 11/28/2024 Actually it's simply a cute little fun movie that's not looking to go down in history as a super great comedy. It's got some dumb stuff in it but it doesn't overwhelm the movie by any stretch. It's got plenty of fun stuff that makes you laugh, and the actors are all good and likable. Freddie Prinze and Monica Potter work really well together, and along with the cast (especially the narcissistic models) keep the movie at a good pace. I wouldn't give it an "A" rating but it's easily in the "B" range because it has plenty of funny parts that made me laugh. My sister and I watched this movie probably a hundred times on VHS and just rewatched it tonight. It's a great time for a silly night with some wine. We probably have some nostalgia glasses on but it still makes us laugh. See more dustin d @RT12543299 04/13/2021 Head Over Heels appeals to the demographic of rom-com/chick-flick fans who find poop jokes funny (nobody). During the first act I was actually invested in the story of a Renaissance painting restorer (an interesting occupation) who constantly makes Freudian slips around the dreamy Freddie Prinze Jr. I liked the supporting characters, including her supermodel roommates. The whole movie should have been like that. Alas, it instead descends into a comfortably routine plot involving the Russian mafia and FBI. It's one of those stories that requires every character acting stupid in order to maintain its momentum, which is frustrating. It was harmless enough, but was set up to be a flop.
