Dating coach Alex "Hitch" Hitchens (Will Smith) mentors a bumbling client, Albert (Kevin James), who hopes to win the heart of the glamorous Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta). While Albert makes progress, Hitchens faces his own romantic setbacks when proven techniques fail to work on Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), a tabloid reporter digging for dirt on Allegra Cole's love life. In the 17 years since (and the 10 or so before) the release of Hitch, websites and apps, which were geared to those looking for love or something like it, make what takes place throughout this film appear quaint, arcane, and more than a bit dated.

Hitch has its moments, mostly because Will Smith brings so much movie-star charm to the lead role. As Alex Hitchens, he is smooth, funny, confident, and likable without feeling too smug, and the movie depends on believing he could teach awkward men how to present their best selves. Kevin James gives the film many of its biggest laughs as Albert. His dancing, panic, and complete lack of cool are funny because the character still feels sweet and sincere. Smith and Eva Mendes also have a solid push-pull dynamic, with Sara challenging Hitch enough to keep him from seeming too perfect. The "date doctor" setup is a strong romantic-comedy hook, especially once Hitch’s own rules stop working for him. The problem is that the story follows a very familiar path, with few real surprises. Hitch is pleasant and easy to like, but it is more charming than memorable.

A phenomenal film, very underrated gem at that which balances a perfect blend of comedy, romance, and heart. The chemistry between Eva Mendes and Will Smith oozed even off the screen you just felt like this was something in real time, and this is the perfect film to watch with your significant other and embrace.
