This is a picture which I would simply hate to have missed. It is a totally conventional film, but is none the worse for that. A good movie is a series of gloriously foregone conclusions, and Fire is no exception.

I tried to keep my dislike for Clint Eastwood and his movies out of this review, but this is one of the reasons why I don’t really like his movies. It felt drawn out and boring. I will say this though — the best thing about the movie is John Malkovich. He was very good in this movie. I also did not care for the love connection between Clint Eastwood’s character and Rene Russo’s character. Dylan McDermott’s character also died way too fast. And honestly, all the Secret Service agents made some of the dumbest choices throughout the movie. Not a good movie to me.

I’ve seen this move many many times . First watch it as a young kid and it really stuck with me. Amazing acting all round. good story . A classic 90s movie . A must watch

I saw this at the cinema when it came out and revisited it recently online. It has worn well; the two main characters are believable and interesting and John Malkovich, in particular, is amazing. The love story between Rene Russo (39 at the time) and Clint Eastwood (63) is a little unlikely - although he is Clint Eastwood I guess - but more importantly it's extra fluff we don't need. That apart, the film is a good idea, well made and acted.
