Compared to the first film it is a lot worse. I say I enjoyed the first film more than anything else in the Insidious franchise. The fear and the jumpscares felt so real in the first one. The Bride in Black is not only one of the most disturbing and creepy horror characters but also one of the most dangerous (in my opinion). The original worked so well because of its tight focus, strong atmosphere, and steady buildup of tension, but this sequel spreads the story in multiple directions and loses some of that simplicity. Instead of relying on consistent scares, it spends a lot of time explaining the lore and jumping between timelines, which can make it feel less engaging. There are still some creepy ideas and a few effective moments, and the cast continues to do a solid job, but the overall suspense just isn’t as strong.
