The movie presents the last few years of Yamamoto, a highly intelligent and complex man, played with great sensitivity by Koji Yakusho. You will learn much about Yamamoto and his cruel fate of having to launch the attack on Pearl Harbor and initiating the war he tried so hard to avoid. You will also learn much about Japan and the social and political currents and cross-currents during the lead up to and early days of the WW2 Pacific theater. The music wonderfully evokes the appropriate moods during the movie. If you want a movie that gives you much to think about, see this one. I know many Japanese suffered greatly during the war years and I'm not trying to deny the humanity of the Japanese people, but this is a whitewashing of history. See more Read all reviews
