When a number of women are violently murdered in the middle of a big chess tournament, chess star and grandmaster Peter Sanderson (Christopher Lambert) is named the primary suspect, since his girlfriend is among the victims. But Peter then receives a taunting call from the killer, daring him to solve the deadly game. Even under suspicion, Peter joins forces with two detectives (Tom Skerritt, Daniel Baldwin) and a psychologist, Kathy (Diane Lane), to track down the killer.

mohammed M. @9mr_0 1h العمل متوسط. القصة مقبولة فكرتها عادية و الحوارات بين العادية والسطحية . أداء الممثلين مقبول بشكل عام، لكن بعضهم قدّم أداءً فيه مبالغة مع ردّات فعل واندفاع غير منطقي في بعض المشاهد. الإخراج اعتمد سردًا بإيقاع متذبذب مع تكرار واضح، خصوصًا في الجرائم التي جاءت أغلبها بنفس الأسلوب، والضحايا لديهم ردّة الفعل نفسها . المخرج بدا الفلم على ان فلم دراما نفسية و جريمه لكن فجاه الفلم يتحول الى دراما سطحية جدا مع مشاهد مكرره للجريمة بس يغير الضحايا الى ان وصلنا للنهاية عبارة عن ازعاج صوتي و هدف الشرير طلع تافه جدا . التصوير مقبول، والإضاءة والألوان متزنة ومناسبة للجو العام المظلم للفيلم. الموسيقى في بعض الأحيان كانت مزعجة، وأحيانًا أخرى مناسبة للمشهد. بختصار هو فلم مقبول حاول بعض الممثلين يقدمون افضل ما عدهم مثل المحقق الكبير بالعمر و الدكتورة لكن القصة نفسها عادية مابيها شيء مبهر واخراج مو بالمستوى المطلوب. Daniel Baldwin's cop role is mediocre tries to be the big man and it doesn't work. A younger Diane Lane absolutely sexy as the psychologist (then married to Lambert). Raunchy sex scene and we see her ample assets what's not to love? Worth a watch if you've got 2 hours to kill. BUT -- it's a pretty good low-budget Christopher Lambert movie, with a twisty plot, interesting atmospheric visuals, and a very good performance from Tom Skerritt.
