The Hoover family -- a man (Greg Kinnear), his wife (Toni Collette), an uncle (Steve Carell), a brother (Paul Dano) and a grandfather (Alan Arkin) -- puts the fun back in dysfunctional by piling into a VW bus and heading to California to support a daughter (Abigail Breslin) in her bid to win the Little Miss Sunshine Contest. The best thing about American cinema is that besides the studio-assembled big ticket movies, there's also the flourishing indie film movement which keeps throwing up some delightfully refreshing movies.

The film isn't afraid to push the boundaries in the most obscene, shocking, provocative ways, but somehow still manages to make those moments funny, even though you're kind of insecure whether you should be laughing at something like this.

This movie seriously stirs the heart. All the different character arch’s and developments were incredible and each one presents you with a recognizable feeling. In my opinion this movie is all about showing up for those you love and that’s something that anybody can relate to. It made me want to call the people close to me and thank them for all they’ve done. It was beautiful. I definitely would watch again.

Synopsis
