Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh team up in "Mayday," a genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head. Ryan Reynolds’ perma-Deadpool edge of slick sarcasm isn’t for me, but it’s put to great use in this Cold War buddy comedy from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Dungeons and Dragons).

It’s a compliment to call "Mayday" a latter-day "Top Gun" riff, because it satisfyingly meets the needs of that film’s core audience — delivering a buddy comedy, a road movie and an international adventure, with surprising heart.

Fun comedy/action movie but the ending seemed suuuuper forced like the whole movie was just to affirm his lesbian daughter. It felt like it was the entire purpose of the movie. Made all the action up to that point and the story building go limp.

I think there’s a bit of a mismatch between what’s supposed to be happening (airman on a secret mission caught behind enemy lines, trying to get home) and what’s actually happening (Ryan Reynolds joking and being silly throughout). It’s a fun movie, and Ryan Reynolds quips are usually fun, but it did have me yelling at the TV, “STOP TALKING” constantly. You’re supposed to be trying to get home! You don’t speak Russian! It’s the Cold War! *This is how they figure out you’re an American* If details of the script had changed, or they didn’t rely so much on the quips for humor, I think this movie could work. As is, it was a good enough way to pass an evening with a few genuine laugh out loud moments, but mostly just okay.

Ryan Reynolds being Ryan Reynolds. He has one way of acting and is basically dead pool in every film he is in these days. Film was Ok, not great put passed a couple of hours. You will love this if you want to see Ryan Reynolds acting as Ryan Reynolds. The story was……ok
