Materially-speaking, however, I argue that the film is not as relevant today, because the idea of "popularity" didn't necessarily transform so much as it died outright. Consequently, any incoming films regarding high-school social environments could focus more on the passive, yet populous, student-as-consumer monolith rather than the social politics of individual popularity or faux-materialistic status. Rachel McAdams plays Regina George, leader of the vicious school group "The Plastics". The plot follows Cady entering high school. Two outcasts warn her about the dangers of hanging out with Regina. Cady soon gets an invitation to join The Plastics. Will she destroy Regina's empire or become just like them? The acting is excellent. Lohan captures Cady's transformation perfectly. McAdams shines as Regina George, making her iconic. The music fits the early 2000s vibe. While there are no special effects, the sharp dialogue is the film's main special effect. I highly recommend Mean Girls. It is a smart and funny look at high school life. You do not have to be a teenager to enjoy it.
