Anthony D @RT91801497 11/10/2022 Witty dialogue, good action sequences, and a ton of memorable "one-liners". It's not trying to be anything more than a European Jiang Hu flic and in that, it succeeds. It's not on the same level as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with it's cinematography or amazing landscapes, but it's still a lot of fun. See more 03/22/2022 Fantastic movie!!! See more 08/25/2021 Seemingly followed the trend of martial arts integration to garner millennial interest towards the classic tale of swordsmanship only to find it both child's play and live action role playing (Did it originated there?) by generic characterization as the production merits blandly weren't up to cinematic standards albeit how the climax was staged and not without wit, both decently at a minimum. A descent script, with some descent acting, and a stereotypical one eyed patch bad guy dressed in black. A corny descent good time. See more jordan m @RT33422384 03/03/2021 I actually liked the plot changes they put into this one as there was no need for a direct adaptation at this point and they changed it just enough to keep it familiar but fresh. I did laugh when they murdered both of D'Artagnan's parents as pre-90's versions did not do that, then the Disney one killed only the dad so this one upped the ante by offing both of them; I half suspected the 2011 version to invent a more family members to kill in order to set the plot in motion. The Hong Kong-style of the fight scenes made them feel a lot more violent to me , the hits seeming to land harder and the results being more deadly. The final fight was extremely good, likely underrated given the critical panning the movie received as it's among the best fight scenes I've seen, though mostly for its ladder gimmicks. I als liked the camera angles in the penultimate rainy scene with them fighting on the side of the building. The primary thing I disliked was that they attempted to make D'Artagnan into a brooding Batman-like figure but did so by making him uncharismatic and outright rude to people who didn't deserve it, with multiple scenes of characters asking him questions and him refusing to just give them a straight answer. There was no reason to be treating people like that and it made him unlikeable for me. See more 07/09/2020 It was a bizarre time for action films post-Matrix... seems like everyone wanted to jump in on the Hong Kong influenced style. This take on The Musketeers is no different. As such, it has some cool action sequences, (even if the wirework is totally out of place here), but suffers from casting a mannequin in the lead role. So most of it just feels hollow...
