High school sophomores Dash and Assaf are best friends and the only writers for the school newspaper. When the editor starts giving Assaf solo assignments, Dash is jealous and reports a false story about Assaf having erectile dysfunction. Later, when Dash is doing research, he learns that the school is not up to code and tries to warn the students, but nobody believes him. Then, an earthquake hits, and the school sinks into the Pacific Ocean with all of the kids trapped inside.

Shaw's animation is a loopy, inventive mish-mosh of elements: thick pen outlines, fine etching work, washes of finger-painted color, and the occasional outbreak of full-on psychedelia.

A really engaging and dead-pan misadventure that would have suffered if it were made in any other medium besides animation. Short and sour sweet, it's more than worth seeking out for it's precise tone and great soundtrack alone. [Full review in Spanish]

Elevating it's animatic style to psychedelic highs, as well as randomly gross lows, MEHSSITS is unique in every sense of the word, in addition to its self explanatory, pulse-pounding premise.

This movie was beautiful, but it didn't really have much to give in the realm of plot and characters. It was every basic high-school story, giving no surprises besides perhaps a bit of the violence. It was well done but could have been more inventive, and it completely slipped away from my mind almost instantly after watching it.

If this film were to be told in any other way than the animation style of which it was presented, it would be extremely cheesy. But with its visuals being just as strange as the story, it creates a unique and enjoyable atmosphere I havent found in any other film.

Synopsis

High school sophomores Dash and Assaf are best friends and the only writers for the school newspaper.
