We get so many of his favorite themes: family relationships & dynamics, redemption, the healing power of nature, simple country living. Redford seems to be content with his life, and at first is reluctant to take up Fonda's offer to Platonically sleep with her, but eventually is ensnared. Over time a romantic relationship grows with Redford taking on the role of a strong husband/father figure when Fonda's middle aged son asks her to take care of his son (Fonda's grandson) when his wife suddenly leaves him. After nursing Fonda back to health after a serious fall, Redford (now in love with Fonda) is ditched by Fonda who decides to move in with her son to take care of both her son and grandson.
