See more Dave S @RT68722908 Nov 11 In Play Misty for Me, Clint Eastwood’s directorial debut, Eastwood plays Dave Garver, a steely-eyed and smooth-talking late night DJ whose life is turned upside down after a one-night stand with a woman (Jessica Walter) he meets in a bar…who turns out to be more than a little possessive and seriously unhinged. While it’s nothing flashy, Eastwood shows off his chops as a director, foreshadowing what was to come down the road. Things do come off the rails a bit towards the end as the narrative flow is disrupted by a pointless musical interlude (Roberta Flack’s The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – great song, but it doesn’t really fit in) followed by a lengthy montage of shots of Eastwood and his friends at the Monterrey Jazz Festival. It’s a decent enough movie, all in all, but a lot of footage could have been left on the cutting room floor. This is the story of a DJ.. just trying to move along in his daily life, without a hint that he's about to become a prisoner of this lunatic. Imagine your own life. Now, imagine you have a stalker.. okay.. you know they are there.. you know what they're up to (somewhat). Do you no longer go to pick up your dry cleaning? Do you no longer go out to eat? Go to your job? That is what is being represented here. Done spectacularly well, considering it was a first attempt at directing.
