"Prey for Rock & Roll," based on Cheri Lovedog's autobiographical stageplay, stars Gina Gershon as Jacki, a rocker who's hitting her "I'm still here" years and worrying that she may never make it big. Also starring Drea DeMatteo, Lori Petty, Shelly Cole, Marc Blucas, and Ivan Martin, the film marked the feature directing debut of veteran music supervisor Alex Steyermark. "Prey for Rock & Roll" had its world premiere at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and went on to play major festivals worldwide before a limited release in fall of 2003. Gershon sings all the film's songs (produced by Stephen Trask of Hedwig and the Angry Inch fame), backed by an all-star band of women alt-rockers. A film ahead of its time, "Prey for Rock & Roll" was embraced by mainstream and alternative media alike, and immediately established itself as an LGBTQ touchstone film and a rock and roll cult classic.

Played with the right combination of weariness and optimism by Gina Gershon, Jacki will be recognizable to any woman who has ever strapped on a guitar and plugged in, as well as to those of us who have encountered her.

There are some musicians who claim fame doesn't interest them. Jacki, the central character in "Prey for Rock and Roll," isn't one of them. She wants to be rich, famous and adored. She wants to be a rock star.

Prey For Rock & Roll celebrates all things awesome about the rockstar life, and with an unapologetically queer twist. Like other queer rock musicals Velvet Goldmine, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and The Runaways, make sure to play it at maximum volume

C'mon, it's got the fabulous Gina Gershon fronting and giving her all. What else do you need? Maybe fewer clichés, and the view gets sick of the mess of cigarettes, liquor, drugs, and just, well, mess. Still, Gina, Lori, & Drea... I really enjoyed it.

Un filme descafeinado con romances forzados, musica intrascendente, personajes encasillados... y de entre la bruma surge la figura eterea de Gina Gershon, ya madurita, pero energizada y muy sexosa. No me gusta hablar de lugares comunes, pero por ejemplo, I Wanna Be Your Dog de Iggy Pop ha fungido como soundtrack en al menos 13 ocasiones desde 1986, casi en el mismo contexto.

This is easily my favorite movie. It gets depressing, but if you stick with it, the ending is well worth the ride. Plus you have the bonus of an excellent soundtrack!

I get the impression this movie was written by a jaded wannabe rock star much like the one depicted in the film. There's so much negativity and so many pretentious, depressed characters that there's no possible way I could enjoy it. The only character I found remotely realistic or likeable was Animal, and he was not enough to save the rest of it. Waste of time.
