After the death of Richard the Lion-Hearted, a skilled archer named Robin Longstride travels to Nottingham, where villagers suffer under a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation. He meets and falls in love with a spirited widow, Marion, although she is skeptical of his motives. Hoping to win her heart and save the village, Robin gathers a band of warriors to fight corruption in Nottingham, little knowing they will soon be fighting to save England itself.

Ridley Scott's revisionist take on this oft-told tale offers some fine acting and a few gripping action sequences, but it's missing the thrill of adventure that made Robin Hood a legend in the first place.

Scott decided, I think, to get away from the whole campy thing in tights business and wanted to make this 'real'. So there is sweat and dirt and rats at the cheese and even bad teeth, which is fair enough, but it is also joyless.

This movie was awful in so many ways. Took itself way too seriously. The score was completely incongruous. Horrible writing, terrible acting, even considering the great cast. But…it was beautiful and I couldn’t turn it off. I liked the take on the story. Generous 3 stars.

Story: 8/10 – A grounded, gritty take on the classic tale. The film focuses more on political intrigue and the origins of Robin Hood as a fighter for justice than on the traditional legend. Some pacing issues early on, but the story grows more compelling as it progresses. Visuals / Atmosphere: 9/10 – Ridley Scott delivers stunning cinematography. Battlefields, the forests, and medieval towns feel authentic and immersive. The film has a realistic, earthy tone that suits the story. Action: 8.5/10 – Battles are intense and visceral, though not as fast-paced as modern action films. The archery and sword fights feel weighty and realistic. Soundtrack: 8/10 – Marc Streitenfeld’s score is solid, supporting both tension and emotion without overshadowing the scenes. Performances: 8.5/10 – Russell Crowe is strong and grounded as Robin, Cate Blanchett brings elegance and subtlety as Lady Marian, and supporting roles are solid. Some dialogue feels stiff, but the actors carry it well. Overall: 8.4/10
