Overwhelmed by her suffocating schedule, touring European princess Ann takes off for a night while in Rome. When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench and is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley, who takes her back to his apartment for safety. At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann's regal identity and bets his editor he can get exclusive interview with her, but romance soon gets in the way.

A classic of its genre. Dated of course, but to be appreciated for what it was. Romantic, humorous and fantastical. One can immediately see the appeal of Hepburn and why she then went on to have the career she did.

A delightful romcom with great performances from its two leads, hilarious moments, heartfelt scenes and a surprisingly bittersweet conclusion, Roman Holiday is, as the adage goes, an oldie but a goodie. Wow, what a daring and controversial opinion, I know. Sometimes a film can just be breezy fun about a countess taking a break from her duties before coming home gaining more agency who won't be told what she can and can't say. Somebody will probably do a better job than me talking about her character arc in a video essay one day. But yes, Roman Holiday is a sweet film, go watch it if you haven't already.
