In this modern take on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Frank Cross (Bill Murray) is a wildly successful television executive whose cold ambition and curmudgeonly nature has driven away the love of his life, Claire Phillips (Karen Allen). But after firing a staff member, Eliot Loudermilk (Bobcat Goldthwait), on Christmas Eve, Frank is visited by a series of ghosts who give him a chance to re-evaluate his actions and right the wrongs of his past.

It’s the sort of picture where it’s easy to understand the POV of both its fans and its detractors, and I myself have over the decades gone from believing it was slightly underrated to now believing it to be slightly overrated.

What’s not to love? Take Bill Murray and the 1980s and presto instant classic, and no woke ish at all, it’s the best modern version of “a Christmas carol” I’ve ever seen and plenty of laughs for the kids and the adults without being vulgar….Family classic on the level of National lampoons

Watched it a day before Christmas Eve and man, it was BOOOOOORINGGGGGG. The only good parts about this movie were the ghosts. They were pretty cool in my opinion. Bill Murray didn’t play a good Scrooge at all. He wasn’t an over the top mean douche bag in this. It was just Bill Murray playing Bill Murray. If you want a better Christmas Carol movie watch the other ones.

While at times the obvious production problems can factor into pacing and performance issues, Scrooged overall is a funny, charming and successful updates version of the timeless classic.
