See more Vixo S @vixo_six Jun 11 Secret Window is a competent psychological thriller with a solid atmosphere and a Johnny Depp performance strong enough to carry most of the film. Its problem is not the execution, but the familiarity of its central device. The story depends on surprise, yet that surprise is easy to anticipate if the viewer has seen several films of this kind. The film works better when it focuses on isolation, tension and the protagonist's mental deterioration. Those elements create discomfort, but rarely become distinctive enough to leave a lasting impression. Its ending is the most interesting choice because it avoids an overly comfortable resolution and leaves a more bitter aftertaste. Secret Window is not a bad film, but it feels limited by how recognizable its structure is. It is watchable, but not especially memorable.
