Boozy writer Marty (Colin Farrell) is a man in search of a screenplay. He has a catchy title but no story to go along with it. Marty has a couple of oddball buddies, Hans (Christopher Walken) and Billy (Sam Rockwell), who make a living by kidnapping rich people's dogs, then returning them and collecting the reward. However, this time, the fur flies when Hans and Billy kidnap the beloved pooch of a gangster (Woody Harrelson), and Marty uses the ensuing events as fodder for his screenplay.

Great cast! Great story! Great script. Walken and Rockwell steal every scene they are in. Harrelson and Farrell almost keep up and do a commendable job of riding shotgun. Typical McDonagh unexpected twists. Just enjoy the ride.

The beginning starts with Michael Pitt and Michael Stuhlberg being executed as they debate whether anyone besides John Dillinger was killed being shot through the eyes. Already we see a very dark comedy, filled with hyperbolic, comic book violence emerging. Woody Harrelson turns in a great performance as the racist hitman Charlie Costello, charged with finding his kidnaped dog, and the movie lands somewhere between a screenwriters fantasy, making it difficult to determine whether the violence should be taken seriously or not. Mainly for an audience polarized toward masculinity, the movie features a story with vignettes strung together successfully, if not a bit haphazardly. two of which include Abbie Cornish in a wet shirt and Helena Mattson topless. The end is a bit slow, so I generally conclude the ending prior to a shootout which adds a few extra minutes, but keeps it from being the absurdist creation it is. It's easily on my 'can be viewed more than 5 times' list.
