A young couple, Shaina and Mark, attend a music festival with their best friend Elijah on their annual pilgrimage away from their work-heavy city lives. It's also something of a farewell trip for the couple because they are expecting, though they haven't told Elijah, yet. Their plan is to tell him at that beautiful cabin they found on a vacation rental app. Upon arrival the host is nowhere to be found, but she has left instructions for them on the door along with a gift basket of wine. Everything is perfect except the faint smell of death that only the pregnant Shaina can smell. After a visit by two beautiful women, Shaina quickly becomes suspicious -- things just don't add up. When Elijah disappears, she and Mark begin to search frantically for their friend, only to discover that they're being hunted by figures wearing skinned animal masks.

Shady Grove suffers from dialogue and pacing issues. Everyone else recites lines that sound like lines. It’s directed like a stage play with rigid blocking considering the material everyone is given to work with feels like recited dialogue.

Mixing elements of folk horror and home invasion tropes, Shady Grove is an entertaining enough tale that hits the right spots when it needs to.

With a nice supporting turn from Becki Hayes as the local sheriff, this is a film whose secrets lie as much in what we don’t see as what we do.

Takes too long to get going, and once it does, has to rush to make up for lost time. Attempts to create trust issues between the two leads never work as they are brought up and dropped constantly. Would have been fine as a straightforward horror film.

If you enjoy horror then you must see this film. I am not generally into the horror though SHADY GROVE was a great balance of suspense, special effects, incredible cinematography/scenery, music, comedy, sexiness!!! Produced by Niki McElroy who impresses me more and more each day. Like what doesn't she do?! The performances were stellar and it looks like the whole cast and crew had a great experience making this film. 5 stars!!!
